more trip stuff and birthday soon!

You know what I hate? People who disable right-click on their website... WHY?!?!? i dont always like a link opening in the same window/or new window every time, so i like to right click on the link to control whether it opens in a new tab or new window or whatever takes me fancy. Why do you feel the need to control that? No one is going to steal your html code, get over it. ARGH! so very frustrating!!!!!

so i went back into blog hibernation for a while. sorry about that. I finally saw Thank You For Smoking on the weekend- hilarious! i loved it. I also found out they made one of my favourite books into a movie - Perfume by Patrick Suskind, is now Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. There is a teaser trailer and a full trailer (but dubbed in German) up online. And I believe its been released in Germany and a few other European countries, but its not due for Australian release til January 2007. I'm very excited and hope to god its not a let down.

I paid for my flights to Brisbane-London and London-Dubai-Brisbane the other week and applied for my passport. Yeeehaw, the trip is underway! I haven't organised any type of travel insurance yet, but I think I will get it. www.travelinsurance.com.au has some policies for about $200- which seems very reasonable. I'm not really sure what makes a good travel insurance policy and what to look for, but I guess its best to be covered.

Last night the Boy stayed over and we organised all our european flights - We've now included Prague into our travel plans.
3 December - Fly from London to Paris. Spend 4 nights in Paris.
7 December - Fly from Paris to Rome. Spend 7 nights in Rome.
14 December - Fly from Rome to Prague. Spend 4 nights in Prague.
18 December - Fly back to London for 6 more nights before flying to Dubai.

We're waiting to see the final amounts on his credit card statement, but it looked like it was going to be under $300 AUD each for all of these flights. Sometimes there were cheaper flights available but they flew into/out of smaller airports.

For the most part we've stuck to the main airports -
Heathrow (London) to Charles De Gaulle (Paris), Fiumicino (Rome) to Prague... however on the trip from Paris to Rome we're flying out of Paris Orly to Rome Ciampino- which are both not the main airports. I'm hoping it wont be too difficult or expensive to get to these airports. Our flights are usually mid-morning so there should be plenty of time to make our ways there.
QUESTION: Is it easy to get to Paris Orly Airport from central Paris? I'm not sure where we will be staying yet, but I guess the more central the better.....
Is it easy to travel from Rome Ciampino airport to the city?

I found a website guide to Bed & Breakfast accommodation in Paris and I'm actually quite tempted to stay in a place like this rather than a hostel/budget hotel. A few people turned their nose up at such an idea, but this guide is extremely thorough and seems very respectable and genuine.
The people who are offering the rooms and accommodation have provided SO much information about themselves and their homes. Photos and lengthy descriptions of what the hosts will provide for you while you stay with them- usually including private bathroom, linen, hairdryer, free breakfast and lots of other comforts and luxuries. Many of these peopel have been opening their doors to travellers for years. Perhaps I'm just too trusting a person, but I think this would be an awesome experience.

Especially after being an exchange student for a year, and my family hosting a student for more than 6 months... I think its a great way to experience a different country and culture. Some of the people offering guestrooms have the most beautiful homes, there's even a couple of mansions in there!!!! Plus you get the experience and advice of people who live in Paris, and who know all the best ways to get around, the best things to see. Some of them offer to pick you up from the airport, take you on tours, show you around, cook you traditional meals and learn the language, while also giving you the option of privacy and letting you do it all on your own.

I guess you would get the same sort of travel advice and tips from hostels and budget hotels- meeting fellow travellers who are willing to help you out and tell you how to get around. But still, part of me thinks actually living with a local, even for only 4 nights, would be an amazing experience.

my birthday's less than 2 weeks away! wheeeee! (monday 16th october, in case anyone forgot! :P) I always love this time of year. Spring is my favourite time, and not just because of my birthday and the presents that naturally come with this. The weather is great, jeans and light jackets. Not too hot, not too cold. i love it, however it ends up summer way too quickly these days. I'm going back to Bundaberg for a couple of days (sun 15th-tues 17th) so I will be spending my birthday with mum and dad which will be a nice change. I'm also going back for another (possibly the last) follow up with the plastic surgeon. My itty bitty titties are healing just superbly... the scars are slowly fading (i think) and the boobs haven't sagged too much after settling down.

I hope this doesn't sound creepy but would you mind posting a photo of what your breasts look like now? I'm interested to see what your scars look like. I swear I'm not being a perv! *embarrassed*

I only ask because I am very seriously considering having the same thing done. I never would have imagined doing this before but reading your experience has made me think I could actually do it. I'm still a bit nervous about it though.

E.L.M. - i have a whole gallery full of photos from before surgery, just after surgery etc etc.
i also have a whole section of my site dedicated to the surgery- the research i did, the lead up to the surgery etc.

you'll find the links down the left hand side menu- breast reduction journal and photo gallery. email me at livian(at)muntedmess.com if you want to know anything else.

i found hearing about other people's experiences very helpful too.
the last photo was from day 45 - but honestly the scars dont look a whole lot different now. i should get around to taking some more photos.

and why do you say that pez? the best city in the world? i would be interested in visiting berlin ONE DAY but it doesn't really catch my attention. i mean i'm sure there is alot to see and do and german culture would be quite an experience but there are alot of cities i want to visit more so than berlin.so i'm curious why you think berlin is the best city.....?

I've been to many places around the world but there is something about Berlin. Like cool underground bars in old squats, easy going people, street art and so much history. Sometimes it is a bit edgy and sometimes corny - but that's Berlin. People travelling just get stuck there, they never want to leave. Pez

Did you consider the Eurostar train for London-Paris?

I spent the summer working in London and took a 4-day weekend in Paris via Eurostar, partly because it was cheaper and also because train stations can be in city center, not out on fringes like airports & requiring taxis. I walked to my hotel from Gare de Nord in Paris. Round trip ticket was about 110 GBP, but I was told you could get one for under 80 if you booked a few weeks in advance. Trip was about 2.5 hours each way, so considering getting to/from airports - I'd guess timing is a wash between the two.

Hope you have a great time!

i did look into the eurostar briefly, but we were able to get really cheap flights from london-paris so the eurostar was really really expensive in comparison.

80 pounds is like $200 AUD. and considering we got 4 flights for just under $300 AUD, flights made alot more sense.

based on american bed & breakfasts, i would definitely recommend that you stay in one or two, even if it's just for a few nights. hotels and hostels would be less expensive, but a nice b&b with a boy would be fun to do and worth the extra $.

i am so jealous, i cannot believe how cheap it is to fly to all these places in europe! i'd be lucky to fly to 1 city in the u.s. for that price.

I flew to and from Ciampino when I visited Rome a bunch of years back. Getting from the airport to Rome was nothing I thought of as difficult. If I recall correctly, we took the a bus that dropped us of at the big bus terminel/train station by Via Marzala (or something like that).

    Shouldn't be a problem.

    Hi Ri,

let's see if I could help. Check www.homelidays.com for the stay, it is a way between B&B and Hotels, you get apartments or rooms rented from locals.

Paris-Paris Orly, better to check for the local railway, RER, put into count 25 to 35 minutes, cabs are expensive and jammed in traffic, lot worse then the ones you could experience in Sydney by example.

Rome, the same, for Ciampino there is a bus to the local railway station 10 minutes max wait, then via train you get to Rome Center station(Termini) within 15 minutes, do not expect anything fancy, rails are usually quite caotic to say the least.

First Sunday in Louvre there is a free entrance, see if you could allow time for a visit, Musee d'Orsay is another day of visit, Tour Eiffel is requesting an early wake up and transfer to be able to go to the top, but it is worth it.

Try the slices of Pizzas in Rome, they are served warm and taste really good, use the metro and not the bus in Rome or you will get killed by the traffic.

Always look for the side roads in Rome you could find nice restaurants still extremely cheap, plan for a dinner in Trastevere, you will have local guitar players and experience the real life in Rome.

Enjoy yourself and drop me an e-mail if you need more insights.

    Cheers fake boobies girl ;-P

Rhi, all this talk about travel got me to thinking about my year end plans.

Currently, I plan on arriving in Sydney in mid-December and doing some sightseeing there for a few days. I then intend on flying north to QLD, but don't know where yet. I really want to visit the Australia Zoo and possibly do some diving off the Great Barrier Reef. I also want to visit Uluru, which I hear is quite a distance from Sydney or Cairns.

I have 3 weeks to complete my journey. Is there any place specific I should visit besides those I mentioned above?

    Thanks!

    JR
