disappointing wine

ergh i'm so disappointed. I bought a bottle of wine a few weeks ago and didn't drink it, so it has been sitting on my kitchen bench, tempting me to drink it every time I walk past. But I held off. I waited, I was saving it for a special occasion or for a night when I really craved wine.
Tonight was that night. Cindy is out of town and I came home after a great movie and hanging out session with friends and it suddently felt time to crack open the bottle while I cooked some food and washed up.

Anyway, the wine is pretty darn nasty. Its not a nice drop at all although it was a $20 bottle and I usually only buy $10-12 bottles. meh I wish I knew more about red wine so I could pick a decent wine in the future.

The film I went and saw was An Inconvenient Truth - the documentary about Al Gore's mission to make the global warming issue more recognised around the world. It was amazing. Depressing and bleak, but it achieves its goal of education and for that, it is brilliant. If there is one thing you do this year, make sure you at least see this film. If you don't feel compelled to do take some action after watching it, then so be it, but at least give it a chance and watch!
Check out the website, the imdb site and the trailer.

So, what was the wine? I'd like to avoid it. :)

I know you know of it, but The Stump Jump is probably still the best tasting red I've had at that price. If you can get California wines in Australia, Cline makes a damn good syrah for a good price. (Well, a good price in the US, at least...)

Oh, and if you like The Stump Jump, look for other Cotes du Rhones.

WINE! My specialty. What kind and what brand was it? Alot of red wines are very very bitter and somewhat distasteful if you get the wrong kind.

White wine on the other hand is what I like, but cant drink too much for the pure fact that I will feel like I chugged 1.5 liters of sugar.

I found a red table wine this past month though thats extremely tastey and isnt too bitter, nor too sweet. It's an inbetwen almost of red and white wine and you can serve it cold or at room temp..though this is all in the US.

tlenze- it was Annie's Lane, Clare Valley
    cabernet merlot 2004.
I did drink the Stump Jump for a while last year, or the year before. It was delicious but then they no longer had the bin I had been drinking and the one I tried wasn't as good.
But i should give the stump jump another go. ok i will next time. thanks.

anonymous- full body shots from before the op? hmmm sounds suss and pervy, so no.

brian- i just can't get into white. everyone says red gives the worse hangover, but not true. a red wine hangover for me is so mild compared to a wine wine/champagne or vodka hangover.
mmm i love to drink red wine chilled. it always tastes so much better. i think its because room temperature in australia is much too warm compared to europe.

Hey Brian, are you drinking a lot of rieslings and such for whites? A good sauvignon blanc should have a nice acidity to it that kills a lot of the sugariness. I always look for words like "crisp" and "clean" when I'm hunting for whites.

And reanon, when you get a bottle of the stump jump, check out the three wines that are listed on the front. It will be grenache, shiraz and mouvedre (that last one might be mispelled.) I've tried a couple of wines that were just grenache, and I didn't like them so much, but I've had great luck with shiraz/syrah wines. I haven't gotten ahold of a mouvedre yet, but they aren't real common.
