3 days til my 24th birthday!!!!!!
october is seriously the best month. spring time - there's just something in the air, and i've been having the best time.
the joannna newsom gig was awesome and i had so much fun, although i drank waaaaay too much and paid the price the next day. the venue was pretty shithouse though, and it was hot as hell. Smog was good- his voice was even better live than on his cds, however, he was quite boring to watch on stage. Perhaps if we were all comfortably seated, I would have enjoyed his set. But I was quite hyped up from drinking with Ellen and Devo at the pub, and everyone had stood up in the venue and was crammed right forward, up to the stage.... And the heat was disgusting. So half way through I went outside for some fresh air and a cigarette (a contradiction, i know) and sparked up a conversation with this really cool girl. She looks really familiar and I later worked out she was the merch girl at a few gigs I'd been too. She asked if I wanted to grab a drink, so we went up to the corner pub and had a drink and chatted. She was really nice. We headed back to the gig but ran into her friends on the way and they dragged us back to the pub for another drink. Eventually we walked back down to the Globe, and stopped off at the toilet and noticed that Joanna Newsom still hadn't started, so someone suggested running back to the pub and getting shots. Stupidly, I went along.
By this stage I was extremely drunk and hyped up and we ran back to catch the end of Joanna's first song. I squeezed my way back down the front where Ellen and Devo were and watched with awe as she sung Book of Right-On and the Sprout and the Bean. Her voice was amazing live, though alot deeper and huskier. I took some photos and recorded some of her performance. But the heat and the alcohol was really getting to me. The camera recording is really wobbly - you know its bad when you have to close one eye to focus on something close up. There were two camera screens unless I squinted through one eye....hehehe
So I squeezed my way back through the crowd and stood further up the back for most of the set. I guess the good thing about the venue is, being an old theatre, the floor slopes up from the stage, so even up the back I had a perfect view over the crowd. But they really need to do somethign about that heat. ergh.
It was after 12 when she finished and I knew I was drunk, so I ran home as quick as I could. I was finding it hard to stand up in the shower, so when I got out, I thought I'd take a quick lie down before I dried myself off/cleaned teeth/moisturized etc. 4am and I woke up still with my towel wrapped around me, all the lights on and individual wooly sweaters on my teeth. I managed to chuck on my pj's and switch off the light and drank a litre of water before passing out again. I feel utterly rotten when I woke up but managed to drag myself through the day at work.
Management had decided to buy us all curry that day, and thank god! When I'm hung over, I CRAVE rich, delicious, flavoursome food and LOTS of it. So after stufffing myself with awesome indian I felt alot better.
One day I will learn that mid-week drinking never leads to anything good.
Friday night, the boy and I went and saw some comedians at the Hamilton Hotel, with Heather and her hubby and their friend. Was a very funny show.
Then finally it was saturday and I did a pretty piss poor effort of cleaning before mum arrived. YAY! She brought presents and hair products and hair dye and seafood and dips and Castello cheese. She knows me all too well.... or we're just too damn similar. We spent the afternoon catching up, and dyeing/cutting my hair and cutting the boy's hair, and eating cheese and dips and pate, and I loved it! That night we went out for dinner at the Mecca Bah (there's one in the valley now). The food was delicious and the night was a success... (mum visits girl, mum meets new boy, mum likes new boy, girl is thrilled)
Sunday, mum and I went into the city for a day of shopping. We both returned home with armfuls of bags, which is always a sign of a good day. Later that evening my other cousin came over and the boy returned and mum cooked an amazingly delicious seafood meal for us. Huge bastard prawns, and bug- *drools* My mum sure knows the way to my heart. Castello cheese, clothes shopping, a new hair cut and seafood.... BEST PRE-BIRTHDAY WEEKEND EVA!!!!!!!
Anyway I've been riding on the high from the weekend all week... A new outfit or item of clothing every day, which brings a smile to my face. Running my hands through my new shorter hair makes me feel good. Perhaps I'm just really easy to please, and life is good. I'm happy. October is the best month!
This weekend I'm having some people over for a bit of a birthday gathering, and I'm getting pretty excited for that. However, the weather is shithouse this weekend and the forecast is for storms all weekend, which means I'm having the party upstairs in our unit, rather than downstairs in the courtyard. But its all good. Im going to do a mad clean/tidy and it should work fine. And we can always head out later on in the night.
Dad driving down to brisbane today and staying over tonight. Hopefully we'll go out to dinner or just get take out or something and have a good catch up!
Anyways, hope everyone else is having a good October so far.

nah, it just wasn't anything special. i mean it looks and feels great, but its not that different to what i had before, just shorter in all the right places (mostly the back/top) so you can't really see much of a difference in the cam pics.
plus i blogged a number of days getting it cut so it kinda wasn't such a big deal- there was other stuff to talk about.
:)
